Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Red-lens blue light blockers built for the hours after dark, when blue light from screens is telling your brain it's still daytime.

Intended use

To block the blue light your screens throw off after dark, the wavelengths that disrupt your sleep and your circadian rhythm. Wear them for the last few hours of the day, say goodbye to eye strain, and stop letting your screens decide how well you sleep.

Who we're talking to

Digital BuildersFounders, ecom operators, creators. Ten hours a day in front of a screen, output is the identity. The biggest slice of our actual customers.
Busy ProfessionalsOffice workers on nine to eleven hours of screen time a day. Feel the 3pm wall and the eye strain at the end of it.
Uni StudentsLate study sessions, cost-sensitive, already running on caffeine.

Angles that have shown promise

  • Energy drink comparison. Healthier than the can they're already buying, no added sugar, nothing artificial, and cheaper per serve. The identity side matters just as much. Plenty of people don't want to be an energy drink person, or feel a bit embarrassed being seen with one, so they drink Day Shift instead.
  • Caffeine without the anxiety. People who love the caffeine buzz but wish they didn't get the jitters or the anxiety that come with it. That's why we put L-Theanine in our formula.
  • The afternoon slump. Drink Day Shift around lunchtime and say goodbye to the afternoon crash. Even if it only wins back a couple of hours of your day, it's the cheapest thing you bought this week.
  • Digital eye strain. The thing nobody else in the category can say.
  • Long-term eye health. Requires education, delivered in a way that's actually engaging. Trickier to pull off, but the payoff is higher. Do it compliantly and this is the angle that could really rip for us.
  • UnchartedThe healthy caffeinated Nesquik. Mixed with milk it tastes like Nesquik, as good as a milkshake, except it's caffeinated, it has no nasties and it gives you energy and focus on top. If someone can crack something around Day Shift as the healthy Nesquik, it could be a real winner.
If you bring up coffee
Never ask them to quitAustralians defend their coffee. Go after the second and third cup instead, the 11am and the 3pm they drink on autopilot and don't even enjoy.
Let the price do the workA sachet is $3.25 one-time, or $2.60 on subscription. Put that next to what your café charges you and let people do their own maths.
Skip the crash lineJitters, spike, crash. Every energy and focus brand in the country uses those words, so to a consumer they mean literally zero. People hear them and their eyes glaze over, because they know they're being advertised to. And if we're being honest, most people don't get that bad a crash anyway, so we'd be solving a problem they don't have.

Why people actually buy it

The angles above are the surface, and every brand in this category is already sitting there. This is what's underneath. Nobody wakes up wanting a focus drink, they want what the focus buys them, so keep asking why until you reach something that isn't about the product at all.

What actually moves people
Fear of loss Greed for time Status Vanity Wanting it easy

People buy on one of these and justify it afterwards with the rational stuff, the ingredients, the price, the dosage. Give them that justification so they can defend the purchase, but aim the ad at the driver. An ad that only argues the rational case gives someone every reason to buy and no reason to buy now.

Three ladders, each one a step deeper
"I want to get more done in a day"
  1. Why?So the work that actually matters stops losing to the busy work
  2. Why?So the business grows and I earn more
  3. Why?So the people depending on me get the life I promised them
  4. Why?So I end up being who I said I'd be, instead of the one who ran out of time

Driver: fear of wasted potential. Sell the person they're trying to become. The ad is never about focus, it's about the gap between who they are at 3pm and who they planned to be.

"I want to look after my eyes"
  1. Why?Because they're under strain every working day and I feel it by the evening
  2. Why?Because I've got another thirty or forty years of screens ahead of me, not another thirty days
  3. Why?Because I want to still see properly when I'm older
  4. Why?Because everything I'm working for is something I want to be able to watch happen

Driver: fear of loss. The strongest of the three and the hardest to write. Sell what they're protecting, never what the product does to their eyes.

This is the tricky one. You can show what someone is protecting. You cannot say Day Shift protects their sight, prevents damage, or stops anything happening to their eyes. The desire lives in the viewer, so let them arrive at it. The moment you say it out loud it becomes a health claim and we cannot make it.
"I'm not an energy drink person"
  1. Why?Because I don't want to be seen holding a neon can
  2. Why?Because I'm a high performer, not someone running on skate park fuel
  3. Why?Because I want to look like someone in control, not someone getting through the day
  4. Why?Because how people see me is how I end up seeing myself

Driver: status and vanity. Nothing to do with ingredients. People buy the version of themselves that owns this, which is why the product has to look good on camera.

Day Shift is a food, not a medicine. You cannot say it treats, cures or prevents any disease, illness or condition. Everything you claim must describe what it supports, never what it fixes. This applies to captions, voiceover and on-screen text equally.

Who we're talking to

People who work lateStill on a screen well after dark, then wondering why they can't switch off, why their eyes are burning, and why their sleep scores have gone to shit.

Angles that work

  • Same quality, no brand tax. Made with the same materials as the big brands that put crazy markups on their glasses to add prestige. Highlighting that makes the buyer feel smart, not cheap.
  • Clear and yellow lenses don't do the job. They let most of the blue through. Red is the only lens that blocks 99%+ of it. If you're serious about protecting your sleep and getting rid of eye strain, red is the gold standard.
  • Blue light glasses that actually look good. The category is full of ugly frames. Ours are the pair you'd wear in front of people.
  • The anti-doom-scroll glasses. Put them on at night and the phone stops running your evening. The red tint takes a lot of the enjoyment out of mindlessly scrolling Instagram.
  • Do they actually work? Answer the scepticism head on, then demonstrate it. E.g. the blue light torch test, or holding a lens over the camera you're filming on while it's pointed at a screen so people can see what it looks like through them.
  • Sleep improvement. Put them on 1-2 hours before bed, wind down properly, actually be tired when it's time to sleep, and sleep noticeably better.
Non-prescription eyewear. Do not say they treat, cure or prevent any eye condition, correct or improve vision, or diagnose anything. Filtering blue light is a property of the lens, not a medical outcome.

Human performance in a digital world.

Vysionary brand image: hands reaching for a phone, motion blurred, with the Vysionary mark

We're an Australian brand built for people who live and work on screens. We currently sell two products: Day Shift™, a daily focus drink with eye support, and Red Lens Blue Light Blocking Glasses for the hours after dark.

Mission

To make Australia's most ambitious generation its sharpest.

Why Jack started Vysionary

The world is only getting more digital, and screens keep getting closer to our eyes. Phones, laptops, monitors, VR, Meta glasses, and whatever comes after them. Every year we spend more of our lives looking at a screen, and every year there is more competing for whatever attention we have left.

Two things get taken in that trade. Your focus, chipped away by everything engineered to interrupt it. And your eyes, which quietly carry the cost of a working life spent in front of a screen.

Vysionary exists to build for that. Not to tell anyone to log off, because that is not the world we live in and it is not coming back. The point is to make the things that let someone perform at their best inside it, by looking after the two things the digital world is trying to take from them.

The name carries both halves. Vision, and visionary. The eyes you need to protect, and the kind of person who is actually building something with them.

Things to note

  • Identity. People should want to identify as a Vysionary drinker, the same way they identify with the other things they choose to have around them.
  • Aesthetics and design. We put a high value on both. It's what makes people want to be associated with a brand.
